subject: Samsung Release Their First Tablet Device - The Brilliant Galaxy Tab [print this page]

Samsung look to continue their success in the mobile phone market into the ever growing Tablet market with the introduction of their first such model, the Galaxy Tab, a devices that shows the perfect blend of technology and design.

The Galaxy Tab is a superb tool for people looking to be constantly in touch with their inbox whilst at home or on the move. As one of the applications pre installed on the unit, the Tab offers G Mail but however does also support other services such as Imap and Exchange, where synchronisation can take place. The virtual keypad that the unit offers features large keys that are not only responsive but also easy to use. There is the option to utilise Samsungs excellent predictive text system "Swype", where you run your finger across the screen in one motion rather than individually pressing each desired letter. This method is very accurate and does save time, especially when writing longer messages. Thanks to the device being able to take a SIM card, access to mobile data exchange networks such as GPRS, 3G and EDGE can be achieved. Locally WiFi connectivity allows you to link to a personal network in order to achieve the fastest possible data transfer speeds. The Galaxy Tab is the first device of its kind to operate on the Android platform. Utilising Froyo 2.2, the obvious benefit of this fact is that a huge number of applications are already available for the unit. Another real advantage is Android is its support of Adobe Flash, a real advantage over its Apple counterpart.

The iPad paved the way for much of the tablet market currently available, thus comparisons between this and the Samsung Galaxy Tab are inevitable. Samsung have purposely designed their model to be smaller than the iPad, making it more practical for portable use, yet keeping this size large enough at the same time to be significantly different from the new larger mobile phones available. At 7 inches the screen can be easily used in one hand, and the resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels offers a crystal clear quality on graphics. The unit weighs just 380 grammes which is nearly half that of the iPad. The screen is not only great with regards to the technology, but its construction also impresses. A special type of glass is used which is also used in the manufacturer of high speed trains. The result is a scratch resistant and very durable panel, making the device look better for longer.

Thanks to Samsung, the tablet market now has a new major player in the form of the Galaxy Tab. The Android OS is a massive benefit, and the dual cameras work well. Its hard to fault the design of the model, and the SIM card facility offers excellent mobile facilities.
