subject: Common Seo Errors To Avoid [print this page]

Everything in life has rules and Search Engine Optimization is no exception. Attempting outlawed "clever" tricks when optimizing your site for the search engine isn't going to do you and your site any good.

Neither is being ignorant about the subject. So whether you're an SEO expert or novice, the following mistakes happen across the divide and should be avoided at all costs.

Using wrong keywords

It's imperative that you conduct thorough keyword research when attempting SEO. Not doing this and blindly selecting keywords is a complete waste of time and effort. The same should also apply to picking the most common and popular keywords.

Picking words like software, laptop, computers is a mistake because such words are too general and especially for a new site that hasn't had a chance to establish authority. To rank well, you have to think niche and stick to it rather than picking words randomly.

Over Reliance on Meta Tags

While many people will argue that meta tags are an old thing not to be focused on, others will emerge will a completely differently set of opinion to counter.

Whichever side you choose, remember that over reliance on meta tags isn't beneficial at all. Hardly does a site rank highly solely due to meta tags and good description. Try to focus on the more important aspects of SEO.

Keyword Stuffing

Too much of anything definitely is poison, and this same saying applies to keywords. Keyword stuffing refers to the insertion of too many words into content usually with the intention of achieving higher ranking.

In classic cases of keywords stuffing, sentences don't make sense to human readers. The keyword stuffing occurs in meta tags and as hidden text. Employing such techniques deliberately or ignorantly could lead to your site getting banned by search engines.

Misuse of Title Tag

Title tags are premium. Never fill title tag with vague terms and every page on a website should have it's own customized title tag. For instance, while a site could be named Mary's Love Paradise, it doesn't help to have such text in the title tag of all pages.

Keywords research will show you the terms that people are looking for so that you can create customized tags for every page i.e. "Courtship & Marriage Advice" or whatever other terms are relevant to the page in question.

Absence of Anchor Text

Do not overdo "click here" words on your website. Rather insert page descriptive text to all pages that links to a site. I.e. instead of "click here" why not have "Free First Date Tips" instead? & insert the link on the keyword text & not click here.

The idea is to link the text to a search engine friendly phrase. Doing this will definitely increase the page rank of that particular page.

SEO is vital to the growth and success of any website, but SEO must be done right to show any real results rather than cause harm.
