subject: All Is Well In The Yucatan Peninsula [print this page]

The Yucatan Peninsula is a region of extraordinary history, ecological splendor and ancient wonders. There is quite a bit to this area that makes it different from the rest of Mexico. Up until the 1950's the Yucatan stayed more or less cut off from the remainder of the nation which was finally connected through railroads along with later a highway by the 1960's. Prior to that time the Yucatan's connection to the surrounding world was by sea and consisted for the most part of trade with Caribbean islands, the United States and Europe. In 1972 the plans of a resort community were introduced focused on what is now Cancun, Mexico has now become certainly one of the most popular adventure and recreation hotspots around the planet!

It is of course the native beauty of this place that attracts so many tourists in the direction of Yucatan; aided by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean in the south, the calm gulf waters to the north and lush jungles and underground rivers in between, it's absolutely no wonder people from throughout the world flock to this tropical paradise! Nature, Mayan traditions and hospitality bring people back year after year. The powder white beaches, Mayan ruins, cenotes (underground rivers) and diverse wildlife are a few of the regions highlights.

While you will find many different Yucatan lodging options today; including many mega resorts offering all-inclusive style vacations; they are usually captive in nature and do little to reveal the abundant beauty and culture of the region! Based on personal experiences and years of feedback, we have come to believe your best option for getting a genuine flavor of the area is by discovering the smaller and lesser known Yucatan hotels and resorts. These places are not your typical mega resorts, but nevertheless do offer many of the equivalent amenities and a freedom of opportunity to actually explore the territory and come across adventure. Unluckily, the misconception regarding the security of the area seems to promote the all-inclusive alternatives versus getting out in it. Any full-time resident of Tulum that you may come across will personally testify to the safe travels in this area.

We now have heard from hundreds of people and have visited many of the best small resorts on the Yucatan and have never for a single moment felt unsafe. The truth is you will feel more at home in one of these smaller boutique hotels than anything you'd experience at a large all-inclusive resort. The enchantment and hospitality found off the beaten Yucatan path produce stories that will last a lifetime and the folks you encounter in these places will feel more like kin than you may imagine. You might be surprised on return visits that they'll still remember your names!

The Yucatan is way more than Cancun mega resorts, exclusive Playa del Carmen hotels and spring break crowds. Venture out, step outside the box and find your Mexico, come across your Yucatan, a place where fun, adventure and once in a lifetime experiences are made. See you in Mexico!
