For the internet marketing newbie, setting up a website can be a very intimidating prospect. I didn't know anything about building a website when I first began my IM carreer. I thought that I would either have to become a code writing geek, or be limited by a very simple template website. Fortunately, I found out that this is just not true at all. A lot can be done with little knowledge by using open source content management software from wordpress.org, joomla.org or many others. Also if you have a product that can be discribed by a simple picture and a short blurb about its benefits, a simple e-store template and shopping cart may be all you need. I prefere to be able to interact with my customers and allow my customers interact with me, my products, and eachother. These things can be done very easily by using wordpress.

Start out by going to wordpress.org and clicking their hosting tab.
They will list hosts that have a one click auto install for wordpress, choose one of those hosts (this feature will make your life a whole lot easier).
Check the features and prices of those hosts and pick the one you like best. You may not be familiar with all of the features, so I would just go with one of the first ones listed that has the best price.
Choose a domain name and register it with the web host that you chose in the above step.
After you have registered your domain name and paid your hosting fee, just go to wordpress. org and download their free software. Then go back to the control panel of your web host, find the wordpress software click install and you are set.
Now you can start looking through the seemingly endless themes (the look of your site) and widgets (features that are easily inserted into your website) that will make your site look like it cost thousands of dollars to develop, and it was free.
