I was a bit leery of buying the Canon Sd780iS Red camera because some reviews raised issues with picture quality, edge softening, lens flare, pinkish cast to tungsten settings and graininess. I am happy to report that picture quality on my new camera is equal to that of my last 2 SDs, an SD1000 and an SD800.
There is absolutely no lens flare at 100X magnification.
AT iso 400, pictures taken indoors with tungsten setting with or without flash have no pinkish cast and are acceptable for prints up to 5X7 or so.
Picture edges are acceptably sharp. Here are 2 really, really nice features; 1. The review button is separate, turns the camera on for review of pictures, and the pics can be cycled through rapidly.
2. The slider allows auto and a custom setting. I use Auto outdoors, and set the "C" setting for indoors using tungsten, iso 400 and flash off. Then when coming indoors just move the slider to the C position. It's instantly set for most indoor shots with tungsten and good ambient light. If the light is low, just turn the flash to auto. The camera itself is tiny and pocketable. Cons: the optical viewfinder is really tiny. It's hard to carefully frame a picture using it in low light. Buttons are also quite small, but arranged in the usual Cannon configuration. I found myself using a fingernail to quickly change settings. So far pictures have been really stellar; makes me think some reviewers got sub-par cameras to test.
