Roadkill Toys is an alternative designer toy boutique that was set up in the UK back in 2005 although be warned these are not the kind of toys that you want to be giving your children, if its something cute and cuddly that you are after then these toys are definitely not for you.
Designed for those with a sense of humor all of these toys have a macabre twist to them (for those of you unsure of what macabre means it's basically toys that represent the grimmer aspect of death, toys which have a gory, gruesome side to them) although at Roadkill Toys they prefer to refer to this as squash plush, a perfect fitting as each of their original toy characters from the collection have all literally been run over and squashed.
Twitch the raccoon was the first RoadKill character fresh off of the tarmac. A down to earth raccoon born on the 25th November 2002 who dedicated most of his life to foraging for and eating acorns, sniffing his genitallia and playing dead, a subject which he excelled in at the raccoon finishing school in Berkshire between 2002 2004. Unfortunately it was found on 17th March 2007 that this little raccoon wasn't as good as playing dead as he thought and at the age of five it was found that he was infact no longer playing dead after a head on collision with a Ford Mondeo on the A369 Westbound.
This Squash plush toy measures in at a generous 38cms nose to tail and 25cms splayed out paw to poor. The material used for Twitch's body gives him a rough and ragged fur like quality, a realistic mangy fur look of an animal thats been through an ordeal, maybe dragged along the road.
The body itself contains a combination of stuffing which helps to give it that realistic squidgy feel and beads which helps to give the toy a little bit of added weight which helps to weighs him down and make it look like he is realistically splayed out or should that be squashed! You will find that he has a tyre print that runs across his back which can give a clue to this little raccoons demise. His eyes google from his head out and his tongue lolls out from his mouth.
To each of his sides you will find that there is a zip which once undone allows you to disembowel this poor little raccoon making him look like a true piece of RoadKill. This internal blood and guts are made using a high tech stuffing and plush which gives it a more realistic squidgy feel to it and on his underside you will find an embroidered red blood splat and a couple of embroided white organs as if you are looking into the carcass of his body
Something which I find quiet quirky about this Squash Plush range is that each toy comes in their very own little translucent zip up plastic bodybag. Twitch fit snugly into the bodybag and the fact that its translucent means that you can see the carnage inside before you even open it, Although thankkfully it comes without the smell of death when you do get around to opening it!!!
Each toy also comes with its own personalised brown toetag with details of the characters demise and a certified Death ceritficate which has been signed by a doctor.
