What Is The Best ADHD Solution? - The Answer Is Much Easier Than You Think!

Did you know that a new type of brain scan has been tested on about 250 children at the St. Louis Children's Hospital recently? This may well point the way to a faster type of diagnosis of ADHD but it is very early days yet and more testing needs to be done. Actually this type of scan is quite different from the normal MRI scan which shows brain activity. The newer type of functional connectivity magnetic resonance imaging (fcMRI) actually shows how well or how badly the two brain hemispheres are working and as this could be the one of the causes of ADHD, researchers have become quite excited abut this. But in the meantime, what is the best ADHD solution?

I think the best ADHD solution is to get rid of processed foods as much as possible and to concentrate on parenting skills. Certainly some type of medications may help but really they are just a band aid solution and will never get to the bottom of the real problem. They will certainly never teach children the essential social and coping skills which they so desperately need.

I believe that a diet rich in EFAs (essential fatty acids) or Omega 3 is one of the best ADHD solutions. There is lots of scientific evidence to back this up and there are countless studies which show that ADHD kids seem to have an EFA deficiency. The EFAs perform an essential role in making sure that messages are passed from neuron to neuron so that problems of distraction, short attention span and impulsivity can actually be reduced.

The best ADHD solution is so easy to put into practice. All you have to do is to increase your child's intake of fish, flax seed and nuts. Even if finding these foods are a problem and fish is not popular with kids, a good Omega 3 supplement will do just as well. There is no way that a diet of junk food will provide all the essential minerals, nutrients and vitamins that a child's brain and body needs.

I have long been impressed with the work of researchers like William Pelham and James Lehman who have advocated a child behavior modification therapy program as the best way to solve the ADHD problem. You can call this effective parenting skills if you like but the point is that unless these structures, routines and systems are in place, there is no way that your ADHD child will know what the boundaries between good and bad behavior are.
