subject: Making The Most Of Uk Broadband Reviews [print this page]

Anyone who has spent time looking at different broadband providers trying to get a better deal will know that there are hundreds of different companies to choose from, and each one of those normally has many different levels of packages. What's worse is that while electricity and gas companies tend to offer the same sort of service, broadband companies can vary wildly, and sometimes what may seem like a really good, low cost deal can actually end up being more expensive in the long term by not providing you with the sort of service you may need.

The answer to getting to the bottom of broadband deals lies in checking out what other people think, and taking a look at broadband reviews. These can be written by any number of people, but they are usually written by consumers, which make them a very useful source of information, but also something that you should look at with a critical eye. There are some professional reviews of the bigger providers around, but really, it's hard to review a provider without actually being a customer, as problems can crop up 6 or 7 months into your subscription.

That's why customer reviews are such a good way to find out information about a provider, as these people have had to deal with the company through thick and thin for the length of their contract, which can tell you far more about if a provider is right for you than the sales talk on their website. You can find broadband reviews from users in a variety of different places, usually from comparison sites and consumer review sites in general, but you can also find more in depth reviews by checking out various forums dedicated to broadband news and support.

Of particular note when looking at broadband reviews is to find out things that could affect your own usage. How good the speed is for a particular user is likely not going to affect you as you live in a totally different location, but how good the provider is at providing information or how long customers have to wait on the phone for a customer service call can be important no matter where you live. Likewise, a user review can often be the only way to find out how likely it is for a provider to cap your internet speed or employ traffic shaping that will slow down your internet at peak periods in order to cope with an overloaded network.

You should never just take one broadband review as fact though. Remember that people write reviews for different reasons. You might find that it's more likely for people who have had a negative experience to write a bad review simply because they want to let other people know about how bad it was. Likewise, you might find people saying that a provider has been better than they were so they can justify their own bad decision! That's why reading multiple reviews and trying to pick up when people are saying similar things is the best option when it comes to broadband reviews.
