Zyrtec Generic Cetirizine is an Allergy medicine for seasonal allergy. Zyrtec is used to treat allergic symptoms. Histamine, a chemical in the body, produces the symptoms of allergy such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Zyrtec is anti-histamine that reduces histamine in the body. Zyrtec also treats itching and swelling caused by chronic urticaria (hives).
Before taking Zyrtec, let your Doctor know your complete medical history and the prescription and over the counter medicines you are taking. Zyrtec is not proved harmful to unborn baby. However, tell your doctor, if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant during the treatment. Zyrtec may pass into breast milk and may harm to nursing baby. If you are breast-feeding, do not take Zyrtec without doctor's permission.
One of the side effect of Zyrtec is it may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Drinking alcohol during Zyrtec treatment can increase some of the side effects of Zyrtec. Tell your doctor if you regularly use other medicines that make you sleepy. They can add to sleepiness caused by Zyrtec.
The side effects of Zyrtec may include hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, weakness, tremor, uneven heartbeats, fast pounding, insomnia, restlessness, hyperactivity, confusion, vision problem, less urination, dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, dry mouth, sore throat, cough, nausea, constipation, and headache.
If above side effects are bothersome, stop using Zyrtec and call your doctor at once.
There may be some drugs that can interact with Zyrtec. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without doctor permission. If you take without consultation, it may give fatal life threatening reactions.
