Antibiotics- The New Principle Of Action

Scientists have identified the chemicals the new principle of action ANTIBIOTICS. The researches reported in the "Natural Chemical Biology" that they are supposed to serve as a basis for creating the next generation drugs that will combat the highly resistant bacteria to the current drugs .

Over the past 40 years, despite the extensive development in medicine industry, were discovered only two new groups of chemical compounds that are able to suppress the development of single-celled organisms, or to cause their death. In this case, the pathogens ,because of the wide use of existing antibiotics, begin to develop resistance to drugs, and the work of phisicians is becoming more and more complicated.

Eric Brown and his colleagues at McMaster University in Canada used a new approach of finding chemical compounds that can destroy microorganisms. The basis of this approach is built on genetic methods. Thanks to the developed techniques, the researchers were able to test it on antibacterial activity of certain compounds really fast, and also to identify the mechanism of their effects on microbes.

As a result, scientists have found a chemical compound, called MAC13243. It is able to inhibit microbial activity previously in an unknown way.

The fact is that all existing antibiotics either inhibit the synthesis of the bacterial membrane, or work the DNA of the microorganisms or inhibit the synthesis of a key bacterial proteins. In contrast to existing antibiotics, MAC13243 protein inhibits the work LolA, which is located on the surface of the cell membrane of microorganisms and provides a binding of many important biologically active substances.

"We managed to figure out what is the little earlier by other researchers aspect of the physiology of bacteria that can actually be used to create new types of antibiotics. It gave us the opportunity to take a fresh look at the problem of drug development", - said Brown.
