How to Diagnosing Paper Jams in Laser Printers. A common issue with the Laser printers today

Printers have been around for a very long time. From the old hand cranked block printing machines, to the most advanced color laser printers in the market.

There are many things that can cause paper jams in laser printers, and the process of diagnoses vary from one model to model. In this article we will discuss some of the most common causes of printer jams and their possible solutions.

Where exactly the paper jam happened?

If you can identify this you are quite close to solving the problem.

1. If the printer will not pick up paper from tray, there are several causes.

-Try using a lower weight paper. Laser printer does not recommend printing a higher weight than 20lbs.

-The above solution does not work then probably you need to change the paper roller. They come with the maintenance kit, if you don't have that try cleaning them with a lint free cloth.

2. The paper is picked up from the tray but does not make it to the toner cartridge.

-Well this is the paper feed assembly or the registration assembly. These are not easily replaced and We suggest consulting a professional (Speak to a tech expert).

3. The paper gets to the toner cartridge and then jams.

-If you have a newer model printer check to make sure that the toner transfer bar is not stuck in an upright position.

-Check for dust. If there is debris in the paper path this can cause jamming. It can be a torn piece of paper, a stable or just a build up of paper dust. DO NOT touch the roller. It will hold the oil form your skin and cause print defects.

-Replace the toner cartridge.

4. The paper enters the fuser and gets jammed inside.

-In this scenario fuser will probably have to be replaced, also check for any piece of paper. Clean the paper path with a lint free cloth
