" ANIMALS" AND OTHER GOODIES YOU MAY FIND IN YOUR "ATTIC" EX:"RACCOONS"
People nowadays buy homes and never think of checking in the "ATTIC" to see what's there In a lot ofhomes the chimney goes through the "ATTIC". For an example' if it's made of brick and mortar is it in good shape,is the motar falling apart, or the bricks scaling.Metal pipes? Are the joints sealed properly, is there proper clearances from any flamable material. You might be supprised what is laying around up in your "ATTIC". For an example you may have bees and wasps nests there. You may even have dead birds in your "ATTIC" as they can build nests thereespecially if there are gaps at the edges of your roof or around your chimney. Another spot they can enter is the roof vents if they don't have proper screening in them.
You might also want to check out the roof of your "ATTIC" for water leaks. Water leaks can go on for years if they are slow leaks, andcan cause considerable damage over time. You should also check your insulation for depth and placement. Make sure the insulation also covers the top ofyour trap door. You would be supprised how many homes have no insulation there. You lose a great amount of heat through there if it is not insulated. Check your rafters for discoloration, for example if there going black they may, I stress may have some kind of mould on them. Again I stress may. The only way to know for sure is to have it tested by a professional.
A lot of people buy there homes and never think to check out there "ATTICS", this could lead to major problems down the road. That water that was just a trickle could end up doing serious damage to your ceilingsand wallboard. You shoud have someone periodically check out your roof and your "ATTIC", making sure they check around the flashing on the chimney as that is a major spot for water penetration.
If it's an older home your buying your liable to find all kinds of memorabilia in the "ATTIC" maybe even some very old and very valuble antiques. WOW wouldn't that be nice. Happy days.
