In order to control our weight and stay healthy, regular physical exercises coupled with a balanced diet are crucial ingredients. There are many health benefits associated with exercise, which stimulate the immune system and protect against chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart problems. A sedentary lifestyle or simply one without any physical exercise is an invitation for several diseases and disorders. Obesity or being overweight is primarily associated with having an inactive lifestyle. Why is there such a huge problem today with childhood obesity? Quite frankly, because our kids are staying home staring at their computers or on video games. As parents, we must instill the importance of "being active". We must lead by example, it will only benefit everyone.

Different Types Of Exercise:

There are many reasons why people exercise, such to build muscle, strengthen the cardiovascular system or simply to maintain an active lifestyle. Whatever the reasons, it is just good for health purposes. The recommended daily requirement should at least 30 minutes per day.

Aerobic Exercise: Also known as cardiovascular workouts, the purpose of this type of exercise is that it strengthens the muscles and promotes cardiovascular endurance. Aerobic exercise aims at improving the oxygen intake by the cells in the body. By increasing the movement of the muscle groups from moderate to intense for an extended period (about 20 minutes). Examples of aerobic exercise are running, cycling, dancing, swimming, or engaging in any type of sports. Ideally it is the best way to lose weight. For best results, a moderate intensity workout should be started by first a warm-up period ended with a cool down period.

Anaerobic Exercise: Or simply, weight-lifting. This type of exercise is performed mainly to build muscle and enhance their size, strength and endurance. Anaerobic exercise, involves muscular activities such as weight training and sprinting. Common examples of anaerobic are pull-ups and push-ups, rowing, squats and sit-ups. Couple anaerobic exercise with aerobic exercise to achieve optimal weight loss results.

Flexibility Exercise: Flexibility exercise enhances the movement of muscles and joints. Common types of flexibility training are stretching and bending. This exercise type will prevent muscle stiffness and joint pain in some cases. Types of flexibility exercises are Tai Chi and Yoga. As in aerobic exercise, a warm-up and cool-down session should be included. This will help to reduce muscle soreness and/ or injury, as well as will aid in the recovery of the muscles.

As you can see there is a type of exercise for everyone young or old. You don't need to exercise outdoor or at a gym, many of these exercises can be done in the comfort of your home with minimal costs. Studies have found that exercise not only improves physical health but also helps in treating depression.

Like with anything in life, proper balance between exercise and nutrition is advised. Please consult a physician before starting an exercise routine.
