subject: Take Stock of Yourself - Take the Challenge to Change [print this page] How do you see yourself? Do you wish you were different? Do you think others are better off than you are because of what they have or their social life? It's time you took stock of yourself in a different way. Challenge yourself to change. First of all, quit thinking that things would be better if you were just like "so and so". It just is not true. You are who you are because of the things that you have allowed to become part of your thinking. If you want something to change, you can't just wish it was different. You need to take steps to ensure that things do not stay static about your life. You are who you are because of what has gone into your mind and stayed there. Don't accept that negative thought about yourself. You have the same God given rights as any other human being. It is what you chose to do with your life and your opportunities that move you in the right direction. Second, quit sitting around waiting for something good to happen. Wishing for things is not the right way to look at life. It's time to start setting some goals and writing them down. Keep a journal of what you are working for and do something every day to move in that direction. Make sure your goals are important to you and achievable, but don't make them so easy that they are not a challenge. The more you work on becoming a better person by setting worthy goals, the more you will change. And make sure other people are part of your objectives. Don't create objectives that will hurt others along the way. Challenge yourself to change into a nicer you. One that others will want to be around. Third, find inspiration. Locate others who have accomplished what you want and become a friend to them. Watch how they do things and try to emulate that behavior. Listen to uplifting music rather than stuff that is harmful to your mind. Read inspirational books and articles. Listen to tapes by excellent speakers. Allow encouraging thoughts to enter and grow rather than thoughts that will cause fear and depression. I believe it was Napoleon Hill who said, "You are what you think." Make paying attention to your thought life a priority. As you work on building yourself up, it will not be apparent immediately, but one day you will look into your mirror and wonder what happened to that negative person that used to inhabit your body. You can do it! Take your own challenge to change by setting and working toward worthy objectives. Goal setting is not difficult, but it takes effort and commitment. Do you need help with that?
