If you are spending a night on the couch in front of the TV with your partner then cuddling up together under the covers can be extremely comforting. Obviously another added benefit of doing this instead of cranking up the heating is that you are going to end up saving yourself money on your electricity of gas bills. It may not be an awful lot that you do save but it will all add up over time.
The main place you actually want your duvet to keep you warm is evidently going to be while you are in bed. Again, turning up the heating in your bedroom can stop you from getting cold but doing this can also make it too hot if you don't get the temperature just right. If it gets too hot then you will just end up waking up in a horrible sweat and will find it difficult to sleep properly. For this reason it is best to again have the heating on a moderate temperature but also make sure that you have got suitable covers on your bed. Ideally you should have a different duvet for winter and summer to compensate for the different temperatures you will experience during the seasons. Getting a duvet with a low tog rating (measure of ability to retain heat) for the summer and a high tog rating for the winter is the best course of action.
