subject: Why You Should Not Steal From The Retail Store Where You Work [print this page] After all you must not steal from the retail business where you work. Stealing is wrong, illegal. It hurts the business and therefore the house owners of the business. It disrespects those who work with you and it puts your job at risk.
It's not that easy though. Perhaps you are stealing because you desperately want the money. Perhaps you don't care regarding doing the right thing or the boss or his family.
Perhaps you do not suppose regarding something before you're taking the money for yourself.
There are some things where I have seen individuals steal out of ignorance. Here are 3 samples of ignorant employee theft along with some information designed to counter the ignorance.
Look at all the money coming across the counter, the business will afford it. Out of each dollar which comes across the counter the owner of the business has got to purchase stock, rent, wages, insurance, advertising, electricity, automotive(s), cleaning, accounting fees, banking fees, business loans. In several retail businesses, the number left from every greenback once all of these expenses are taken under consideration is just a few cents. Generally the expenses are more than the business takes in every day.
Thus, retail businesses aren't as rich as they seem. Positive there might be plenty of cash to bank. Most of that does not belong to the retail business.
They deserve it, the boss treats me badly. Thus you're stealing to induce back at what you say is unhealthy behaviour from the boss. Seriously? Have the guts to resign. Stealing as punishment is weak, it's not addressing the issue. You're way worse than any unhealthy behaviour from the boss.
Verify other processes for coping with a unhealthy boss. It might be that you can fix this and not lose your job for stealing, and not get a police record as well.
If you cannot fix your relationship with the boss, go work somewhere else.
It's only some greenbacks every day, it's not as if I am stealing thousands. Theft is theft. A number of dollars is all it takes to prove that you can't be trusted. One incident of you taking a few dollars is all that is needed to call the police. The quantum will not alter the crime.
So do not child yourself that taking a little amount of cash every day or every few days makes it not a crime. It's against the law and it should be pub punished.
If you're stealing from the retail store where you work today, suppose about why you're doing it. Seriously assume regarding it. Suppose regarding the implications, those you are affecting, the potential impact on the rest of your life. Is it really value it? Can you address getting caught?
There are services that will help before the matter gets any bigger. Intervening on yourself and obtaining help could open a bright new future for you.
