Avoiding Depression
Avoiding Depression

Stop worrying about depression and just avoid it altogether. Here are some ways you might find effective.

Depression is not something that just pops in your face like a pimple or flu. The onset is insidious and is precipitated by many factors that can be avoided. But once depression has set in, it is quite difficult to shake off. So instead of waiting for it to develop, it is wise to avoid it all together. This is possible and here are some of the things you can do.

Balance your life. Do not spend all your time in work. Make sure you have time to sleep and exercise. This will keep you mentally refreshed. Exercise can release hormones called endorphins that can improve a person's mood. Make sure you have something to occupy yourself with. If you are just staying at home you can keep busy by having a hobby or a home business or joining in organizations and other activities. These can help you do something constructive and at the same time.

Do not dwell on past mistake. You can't undo what's already done but you can learn from it. Chuck it up on experience. Say sorry and make amends but don't dwell too much on it or feel guilty for the rest of your life. Try to solve the problem and move on.

Learn to say no. Do not spread yourself too thin and do everything by yourself. If you feel that your task is too much, refuse any more assignments. This way you can finish your work and do it properly. Know your limits and stick to it.

Do not ignore the symptoms of depression. Seek help if you think you are depressed so that intervention can be done as early as possible. The earlier you seek intervention, the faster you can be rid of depression. Consult a psychologist, psychiatrist or a counselor to guide you. You can also ask help from family and friends you will support you in your battle against depression.

Keep a positive attitude. Always look on the bright side and keep in mind that things can always get better. Start your day with the thought that it is going to be good and end it with the thought that tomorrow will be even better. When you are having difficulties, look at its bright side and while finding solutions.

Keep your stress levels at a minimum. Depression may develop from unattended stress so make sure you can cope with your stress. if things seems too much for you, find time to relax and rejuvenate. Get a massage or meditate or even take a vacation somewhere quiet where you can rest.

Learn to love yourself, as the song says. Acknowledge that you are not perfect and always strive to improve. But do not be too hard on yourself when you make a mistake. Just fix it and move on. Be kind and patient to yourself. Don't skip meals and eat a balanced diet. Allow yourself recreation when you feel tired and complement yourself whenever you accomplish something. Take one step at a time towards solving your problem and eventually you'll get to where you are going and be free of depression.
