subject: Paying For Sound Engineering Schools [print this page]

The only way you're going to get the best results for sound engineering schools would be to do all of the researching yourself on the computer. You could also ask a friend but they may tell you details about specific schools that you may not want to find out yet until you have looked all of the information up yourself.

You may want to ask a friends perspective on the school you were thinking about going to later on after you pull up the information. They're there to give you advice but you might want to feel that in order to learn from your mistakes you have to make the mistakes. Of course that's a good way to learn, but it will make them feel better if you let them know you're doing it by yourself so you can make your own mistakes if their will be any.

Before you start searching online, you would want to think of any schools you know of that are around in your area. Don't think about considering schools that you know of that are way too far for you to drive back and forth everyday. They don't offer sound engineering programs online so you would have to work something out with your current work schedule if you have one.

Of course you will need a job while you're going to school unless you live with your parents because someone has to pay the bills. Think about your work schedule while you're searching for a school. If you work at night, then the best time would be to go to school during the day. If you work during the day, then you would have to do night classes.

This is very important to talk to an adviser about because you need to find out what their latest classes are and when you're able to do the scheduling, then you need to choose classes for that time of day. This is a good reason why you should be able to act as if you were the first come first serve kind of person meaning register for classes early so you would be able to grab the time slots that you want.

Now that you have a basic idea on what to look for, then it's time to start researching on the computer to find the schools that would have night classes. You really don't need to worry about finding classes for the day time because that's more likely to be open than night classes. Hopefully you have an awesome boss that may let you leave a little early when you go back to school.

If you have found the best school that meets your scheduling requirements and that meets what you're looking for, you're still not done searching yet. Just because you may have found the best school for you does not mean you should stop searching because their maybe another school that is better suited for you and it may also be closer to you than the school you have first picked out.

You want to get at least a couple good sound engineering schools so you can talk to the advisers for each school and see which one would be a better fit for you. You have to make a decision so while you're on the phone with an advisor, you might want to take as many notes as possible so once you hang up with them you would be able to compare the schools and figure out which one would be best for you.
