It was built in the 16th Century under the guidance of Afonso de Alberquerque and is one of the most visited places of Goa.
History: It is historically very important. It is constructed on the same place where Afonso became the witness of the Portuguese conquest on Goa in the year 1510. People of this state believe that St Francis come to this chapel in the evening for preaching the Bible.
Architecture: The architecture of this cathedral is very much influenced by the Manueline style which is a combination of the Renaissance and the late Gothic style. It was built of the literite blocks and was later plastered with the lime mortars. There are three altars in this church and the main altar is dedicated to the Lady Rosary. The roof is made of wooden planks and the interiors are beautifully decorated and are inspired by other religions.
