Guitar Lesson for Kids-How and When to Start

If you play guitar, and you have kids, by now you have most likely considered getting them involved in some sort of guitar instruction, right? You could only hope that your child would take to the guitar like you did. Here is some advice on the best way to learn guitar for a child.

Perhaps you dream about being in a band with your child someday, like Van Halen. I'm sure by now you have figured out that getting your kid into something he's not can be a daunting task. There are a whole set of issues that most adults wouldn't consider initially. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Age is the first factor. As much as you'd like to get your child involved as soon as possible, most programs have a minimum age of at least 7. Number two is aptitude. Some kids get things quicker than others. You've seen the child that seems to excel at math at an early age for some reason? Similar to that, some children will grasp the basic concepts of guitar playing and music theory earlier than others. So what is the best method of learning to play guitar for your child?

If your child seems to have a natural feel or rhythm for music and notes at a younger age than seven, than you may want to think about getting him or her involved in an online guitar program. Before you do that though, you will need to procure an instrument for him. Not sure if you want your five year old banging around on your vintage Les Paul!If you go into any decent guitar store, you should be able to find a guitar that size wise is tailored for a small child.Always shop around for a good price though as many manufacturesres of these small guitars will jack the price up knowing that the parent will pay anything to get his child involved in music.

Once you decide upon a good online course to follow, make sure you set up a set practice schedule for your child and attempt to instill the proper discipline. Only with set quality practice time will your child be able to excel at the guitar.
