Basically, what I'll do is this:
I'll write an article in a category, usually IM related, that has a low threshold for popularity. (i.e. - 2 or 3 hundred viewers is sufficient to move it to the top of the list, within the category itself)
Then...I'll broadcast an email to my subscriber base, telling them to check out the article, and I'll usually have some sort of incentive, or a blog post related to the article for them to come back and comment on to win something, or get a benefit, or even simply to share their perspective on what I've covered in the article itself.
If you have a GOOD relationship with your list, and have 5,000 people let say get this email, you'll find that about 10% or better, will visit the article. That gives you, INSTANTLY, 500 views, making your article the most popular one in the category...in LESS than a day or two, all by leveraging your EXISTING list to build your brand, but giving your content a boost!
Remember......now new people who are interested in your niche (but AREN'T on your list) are going to have an ample opportunity to see your stuff.....meaning a percentage of those folks will now interact with your content...and engage with your process, and of course, opt IN to your list as well.
All viral...all white hat, ethical and amazingly effective and almost NO ONE is doing it, in any niche. (even yours!)
