subject: Physiotherapy Education In Australia [print this page] Physiotherapy is a drug-free therapy employing a range of techniques, including joint mobilisation and manipulation, exercises and stretches, massage, ice treatments, heat packs, ultra sound, airway clearance techniques and breathing exercises.
Physiotherapy programs currently are offered at 12 Universities around Australia. There are two principal degree pathways:
A four-year bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy or Applied Science (Physiotherapy)
A graduate entry Masters program (usually a two-year program).
All of these pathways qualify the graduate as an entry-level physiotherapists eligible to apply for registration.
Most physiotherapy courses have a theoretical and a practical component. In the practical component students undertake placements at different health care organisations, including acute hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, community health centres and private practice.
