subject: How To Get Involved With Corporate Social Responsibility [print this page]

Nowadays people are choosing who to do business with based off of more than who has the best price. Many consumers and businesses are looking to hook up with other businesses that have a clear practice of corporate social responsibility. People want corporations to be responsible for their actions and activities. Getting involved in corporate social responsibility is not only important for the communities and the environment, but it is becoming more and more important to a businesss bottom line.

At first getting your corporation or small business set up to be more socially responsible might seem like an overwhelming task, but there are many ways to make it simple. The truth is that every small change can make big changes towards making things better. Set goals that are reasonable and start them as soon as you can.

Part of the beauty of corporate social responsibility is getting to shout from the mountain tops that your organization care and is making changes to make a difference. The down side is; if you shout it out, you have to follow through. This means making the announcement when you know for sure that changes have already happened or are definitely going to happen. There is nothing worse for a companys reputation than saying they will do something and not following through.

Remember that your corporation is not setting out to solve any serious social or environmental problems. What your corporation is doing is making a difference in their own community in as many little ways as possible. Starting small and having small wins will help keep the ball rolling and help your group to gain the momentum needed to make bigger changes.

Most companies will have employees that are ready, willing, and able to donate time and money to make a social or environmental change and difference. Reaching out to the employee base of any company looking to get more involved with corporate social responsibility is going to make a big difference. Letting the crew steer the ship will help to keep momentum up and get more people involved. Often these social change moments are a lot about who you know. By casting a wide net for as many contact as possible you are setting up to make some great positive changes.

There are also many companies out there that do consulting work to help bring out corporate social responsibility in a company that cannot seem to make it on their own. These companies work because they are an un-biased opinion of the corporation. They can see clearly where changes can be made and how to most efficiently make them.
