Get acne out of your way
Get acne out of your way

Almost 80 percent of all teenagers go through the trauma of acne in their life and desperately seek acne treatments. This skin problem can easily scare you in your 25s or 30s, particularly if you are a female (largely because of hormonal fluctuations). There are various factors causing acne but hormones, primarily testosterone, are known to be the main cause. Heredity, lifestyle, germs are few other factors causing acne.

Pimples, whiteheads and blackheads are the most common forms of acne. Causes of all the types of acne are different and so are the acne treatments. The treatments can range from small non-prescription medicines to surgeries.

Acne Treatments- a quick outlook

If you are suffering from mild acne then doctors suggest the following measures:

Get hold of some non-prescription acne medicine and apply regularly as per the instructions. You must be familiar with acne ointments that are popular and claim to treat acne within days. They are generally over-the-counter drugs containing sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide. They are quite effective for treating mild acne.

Wash your face regularly and daily with water, soap, face wash or cleanser. You may use deodorant soaps but they are of no particular value for acne.

Do not scrub when you have acne! Yes, because friction makes acne worse. This also explains that you should not use loofa also.

Say a complete no-no to picking up on acne and squeezing them to blood. This worsen acne and leaves scars.

If you have slightly serious acne then home treatments won't be very effective. In such a case, speak with you dermatologist who will have effective Acne Treatments ready. Some of them may include:

Topical treatments such as retinoids (tretinoin, tazarotene, or adapalene) or antibiotics (benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin)

Oral antibiotics: A common oral medication called isotretinoin (Accutane) may be prescribed to you. There is no doubt about it being effective but you may have to face few side effects like changes in blood fats and cholesterols, mood changes and birth defects

For females- hormonal medications like oral contraceptives
