subject: why should prefer studying science over arts [print this page]

why should prefer studying science over arts

"Get over the idea , that only students should spend their time in learning. Be a student so long as you still have something to learn, and this will mean all your life" (Henry L. Doherty).

Before starting argument over arts or vice versa, I would like to mention first that knowledge about all fields of study should be provided to students for all-around development.

Now beginning with our punch line that we should prefer study science over arts, arts subjects are an integral part of any educational curriculum. Nevertheless, not many people will allow their children to pick up one of those subjects which fall in the category of hobbies, to be taken up as full fledged careers. The reasons are obvious. The most lucrative careers are one which falls in the category of science, mathematics and other main stream subjects.

The main stream subjects are important for gaining the world knowledge, our body and it's functions, calculations, statistics, history of evolution etc. All these areas of study make a person learned. Arts subjects are related to the interests that are inborn in people but do not serve to increase your worldly knowledge.

These are only a handful of people who succeed in leaving a mark after studying arts but most of the people will be lost in the sea of oblivion because they did not have a main stream subject in college, nor will they be able to switch careers also.

Therefore, there is no requirement of giving arts subjects as much importance as that of science subjects and other main stream subjects.

"The important thing in science is so much to obtain new facts as to discover new ways of thinking about them". (William Lawrence Bragg).
