subject: Gas Water Tank Usage Heats Up [print this page]

The U.S. ranks third in the world among natural gas suppliers. Additional reserves are found daily through expeditions and research subsidized by energy corporations and others in the oil and gas industry. With new source discoveries for heating, American consumers may continue their reliance on natural gas as a prominent resource for heat.

Advantages

A popular method of heating both houses and businesses, natural gas is becoming a more frequent energy supplier for water heaters. Water heaters create comfortable and necessary temperatures for people to conduct everyday activities, such as cooking, doing dishes and maintaining personal hygiene.

More eco-friendly than burning coal, natural gas is rapidly rising an the preferred natural resource for energy. Coal disperses residual elements into the air when burned, something that does not happen with natural gas. Even electricity is often powered through plants relying on coal for energy, making that a strain on the environment, as well.

Hot water is a hot commodity. Gas-powered water tanks are overtaking electricity as the provider for this precious necessity. Particularly on the Atlantic seaboard, where hurricanes, blizzards and power outages often shut down electricity, natural gas-powered tanks are providing uninterrupted service. Hot showers and clean clothes are the norm during these emergencies only for those with gas-powered water heaters.

What Do You Have?

While the awareness of eco-friendly resources increases, many people do not know what type of hot water tank they have until it malfunctions. Cold water is a rude awakening. Do not wait until the last minute to find out what your hot water source is, check the tank now. If you have an electric tank, consider making the greener choice and convert to a natural gas water heater.

If you already have natural gas as your hot water source, make plans to replace your old model with a newer one. Many technological advancements make gas-powered tanks even more economical and practical. One of the most recent developments has been dubbed a tankless water heater, since the hot water is not collected and then heated as it was back in the day. Instead, water temperature is continually boosted as it is processed through the building, creating instantaneous, endless hot water. This cuts down on water consumption and waste occurring when people allow cold water to run out of the faucet while waiting for it to heat up.

Alternative Fuel

Since natural gas is not geographically available to all U.S. consumers, propane makes a formidable substitute. It does not disperse residual elements into the air, and a large propane tank can be safely stored on your property. Although refills are required from time to time, propane gas is still a better alternative to electric water tanks. Meanwhile, industry businesses and energy and oil corporations are working on the discovery of natural gas resources in the United States.
