OU Club of Colorado - OU vs Texas A&M

Poor Aggies.Poor Aggies..oops.wrong Aggies

This week we are back to normal with the OU Club of Colorado! No Halloween, no crazy late game while you all have parties and kids to take trick-or-treating. Just back to normal fun, OU Football Watch Party! (and Halloween was fun! Several of your officers dressed in costume, we had a free Nacho bar, and even passed out free candy at half-time!)

This week the Sooners travel to Kyle Field in College Station, Texas to take on the Aggies of A&M. Kyle Field is a unique environment in the Big 12 and college football. It's home of the 12th man and teams struggle there. Usually. Missouri went in there a few weeks ago, and mopped the place up with the Aggies, and I even think A&M quit during the game. That's about the worse thing a person can say. Last two weeks however, the Aggies bounced backed blowing out Kansas and then last week they demolished Texas Tech 45-27.

The Sooners still have everything in front of them: Big 12 South, Big 12 Championships, BCS Bowl, and even a shot at the BCS National Championship game. Now, I believe that the team does hear our cheering. Our energy in Denver, does affect the Universe. So the Sooners need you to come back to Stoney's and the OU Club of Colorado needs you join us for this big watch party! We'll have Specials on Shiner Beer ($3 a big glass!), Sooner Magic Shot specials, Sooner Swirls (yes Sooner Swirls stolen from the Mont!) special OU game day menu, featuring Fresh Fried Okra and Theta Burger Sliders! (sorry no.free candy)

We will also have a Women's Gymnastics picture to be auctioned off. This is an 8 x 10 picture framed and signed by the Women's gymnastics team featuring their 2nd Big 12 Championship in last year's promotional schedule. It will make a fine addition to anyone's OU collection. Many of you have football stuff, even basketball stuff, but you need Gymnastics team too! I'm sure you are like me, and if you love OU, you love ALL of OU!

FREE GIVEAWAYS - One of the traditions we do at the OU Club of Colorado Watch Parties is free door prizes and little giveaways which we draw for. As we've grown, and grown, it's something I thought we might quit doing. It's hard for people to hear the drawing numbers and even if someone wins, they can be in another county we they walk up to turn in the winning raffle ticket. Also the items are really small, and really they don't change a life to win. As I say when we do the drawing "It's FREE..Don't complain about getting something for FREE!"

The real hard part of the free giveaways is actually getting stuff to give away! As you might notice it's a long drive from Denver, Colorado to Norman. We don't have a lot of OU stuff in a local Wal-Mart or in specialty shops like the Sooner Schooner Store located on Lindsey in Norman, since 1988 (yes that's a free shout out, to a good friend who is fighting an uphill fight against the big bad Wal-Marts). And even when we get stuff, it costs money. If each item costs us $4 on average and we give 4 away a game over a 12 game season, plus Conference Championship and a bowl game we have spent $225! That's a lot of t-shirt sells to make up for that.

My thinking was we need the $225 FAR more than our fans need some little trinket with OU on it. Is it really worth that kind of money? Do our fans get $225 worth of fun out of? I was going to let the tradition slide away and die when we ran out of stuff to giveaway. I truly didn't think anyone would even notice or care about it being gone.

But something interesting has happened. We've had three different people who have gone down to Norman, this year to watch a game, and have brought back stuff for us to give away, and have donated them to the Club! They did this without being asked or requested to do so! I would like to thank these folks for thinking of us!

So.if you really want to help the OU Club of Colorado, feel free the next time you are in Norman to pick up some inexpensive knick-knack items and give them to the Club! We'd love to have them, and it does make people happy. Just the anticipation of the idea of winning something many find to be fun and entertaining. We'll keep doing the giveaways, but ya'll need to keep bringing us stuff!

Up Coming Watch Parties:

Saturday, November 6th, 2010 5:00 pm Mountain

Oklahoma Sooners at Texas A&M watch party

This game is looking a lot different than it did at the beginning of the season when many picked A&M as a sleeper in the south lead by their QB Ryan Tannehill. Turns out the Aggies aren't world beaters many thought they would be, but they did bounce back from a beat down by Mizzou by killing Kansas and then Texas Tech. Kyle Field is the toughest place to play in the Big 12 and the 12th man would want nothing more than to beat OU. OU needs this to win their record 7th Big 12 Championship.

Saturday, November 13th, 2010 1:30pm OR 6:00 pm Mountain

Texas Tech Red Raiders VS. Oklahoma Sooners watch party

In what is becoming a new rivalry for the Sooners the Texas Tech Red Raiders will visit Norman, OK for the Sooners final home game of the season (WOW, it's almost over!) The Red Raiders have been struggling this year, but they would like nothing more than to derail the Sooners drive to the Big 12 Championship game.

Game Time will be set Sunday, but will be either 1:30 or 6pm Mountain, (the other time slot being Oklahoma State vs Texas). We were hoping this would be an early game so we could have a pancake breakfast fund raiser!

Saturday, November 20th, 2010 Time To Be Determined

Oklahoma Sooners AT Baylor university baptist bears Watch Party

Who would have thought this game would loom so large, not only for the Sooners and the Big 12 South, but on the National Football scene as well. If Baylor led Robert Griffin can win out they will win their first every Big 12 South Division championship, but their wins could help decide who plays in the BCS National Championship Game. They still have to beat OU, something that has never happened in the history of the series!
