How to play the Ditone
The ditone is a 2-note tone with a tone(or 3 semitones in-between). For example [C E].
You would almost always play the ditone with your left hand and couple it with a suspended chord on your right hand.
Let me show you and example: C E/Bb Eb Ab.
The ditone is very easy to play as you could just direclty substitute them for your chords. You can do this easily because the ditone that you play on your left hand is directly related to the root of the chord.
For example in playing the ditone for chord 1 on C you would play- C E/A D G. For chord 3 on key C you would play- E Ab/D G C and for chord 6 you would play A C#/G D F.
As a keyboardist you can create amazing sounds by playing the tritone up or down, chromatically. You can use the ditone in the following ways
* As Passing Tone
* Root of the chord
* Chord Substitutions
Passing tone: The ditone is very good for playing passing tones. For example, here is a good ditone substitution you can use as passing tone to chord 6 (on key C).
E Ab/D G C, F# Bb/E A D, Ab C/ F# B E, A E/G B D E
Root of the chord: You can easily substitute the ditone for the root of your chords. It adds a lot of flavour to your playing. Example of ditone substitutions for 1 chords.C- C E/A D GF- F A/D A C
Chord Substitutions: You can use the ditone in place of the regular chords you play to add flavour to your playing as a keyboardist. Here is a demonstration using a 1 - 3 - 4 - 1# - 2 - 3 - 6 progression.
