Making it happen
Making it happen

The major difference between the big shot and the little shot is the big shot is just a little shot who kept on shooting." Zig Ziglar

Several years ago a friend of mine started a small business making high quality garden furniture. He got a website built, had lots of expensive brochures printed and began to advertise in several home and garden type magazines (at great expense).

After a year or so he revealed that his business wasn't working in the way he'd hoped and he couldn't afford to carry on. So he ended up going back to his previous employer and getting his old job back.

It wasn't until a few years later that he told me that he'd actually had hundreds of enquiries from these advertisments and sent out brochures to each one but only received a few orders. Not enough to make his business viable.

I was staggered when he told me this and asked what follow up he'd done after sending out the brochures. He said he'd done none at all . In fact he actually said to me he thought people would beat a path to his door.

It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who is quoted as saying 'Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.'

This is rubbish.

Growing your business is an active process.

There are thousands of people who create better mousetraps but don't have people beating a path to their door.

My friend simply hadn't yet perfected his process. He was very close to success but he didn't realise how close. Just the addition of one procedure would have made all the difference, I believe.

If what you're doing isn't working as well as you'd like then find out why. If what you're doing is working well then find out why.

Stop doing what doesn't work and do more of what does work. Above all, be active. Make it happen.
