Filipe Teixeira released by West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion have released Portuguese winger Filipe Teixeira.

The Premier League club have decided not to take up an option to extend the 29-year-old's deal for another year. He joined the Baggies from Portuguese side Academica de Coimbra for 600,000 in July 2007 but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in March 2008. He had been struggling to reclaim a place in the West Brom team and went on loan to Barnsley for the last three months of the 2009/10 campaign. Teixeira made 62 appearances for West Brom, scoring five goals and played in 14 games for the Tykes after joining them in February. In his absence, the Baggies were promoted to the top flight in April after one season in the Championship. "Filipe is a good pro and gave everything for Albion," West Brom's sporting director Dan Ashworth told the club website. "He had a fantastic first season with the club in the Championship until he got injured. After that it was difficult for him to get a run in the team."

Surman sets sights on Premier League

New signing Andrew Surman says he only has one aim in mind after moving to join the Canaries - promotion to the Premier League.

The one-time Southampton player completed his move to Norfolk from Wolves yesterday for an undisclosed fee said to be around 500,000, and after putting pen to paper on a three-year contract says he is delighted to be joining a club clearly on the way up.'For next season we've got to have the same hopes as last season and be pushing for at least the play-offs and look to get promoted again,' he told canaries.co.uk yesterday. 'The club's got a massive fanbase and the players are certainly here.'

After joining Wolves from the Saints last summer in a deal reportedly worth up to 2m the 23-year-old midfielder admitted to being a little disappointed not to have featured more regularly for Mick cCarthy's side, but believes he has learnt a lot from the experience. 'Training with Premier League players every week improved my game but it was hard to swallow not playing as many games as I would have liked,' he said. 'But even travelling to Premier League grounds and watching games you do learn a lot from some of the best players in the world so it was a good experience for me.'
