In our first blog of this three part series, we discussed how important communication is when ` dealing with virtual employees. Without direct, effective communication between you and your employees, there will be no solid foundation for lasting engagement. In our last blog and podcast, we discussed how the DiSC behavioral profile could be used to recognize and adapt to the virtual employees in order to increase employee engagement. Now we're going to take a look at some additional steps toward increasing employee engagement.
Now that you know how to recognize and adapt to the four different behavioral styles of your virtual employees, it's time to get actively involved in encouraging employee engagement among your virtual team. How do you do that?
You must first be committed and engaged with your virtual employees.
Be a coach and/or mentor.
Follow through.
But don't stop there! Be sure to provide recognition to the producers and the stars of your team, and give them honest, meaningful assessments. For those that don't produce, you can work to change their behavior by:Clearly telling them what you want.Discussing how to get those results.Rewarding the worker if they produce the desired results.You can also teach employees who need it how to effectively manage their own time and responsibilities, which will give them a sense of empowerment and can lead to a more engaged employee.Don't forget to reward your managers for engaging their whole team; their hard work should also be recognized.By the way, why don't you check out our podcast related to this blog.
