subject: The Search For God [print this page] Some would say to look within while others say search the Scriptures. Some would say the journey to God is by grace while others would point to upholding the law and performing good works. And then we would have the extremes of there is no god, to I am God, and I just need to discover me. Ah, the opinions abound. What becomes obvious as one looks around and surveys the human landscape is that trying to make sense out of who is doing what and getting good results is a bit confusing. Is there one system or is it the various journeys playing themselves out in life? There are two scenarios that I have discovered in my life. The first is that following the LAW and being OBEDIENT really only informs us of what is illegal and of course immoral, but such does not lead us to God. Romans 3:20 and 7:7 affirm such; however, those trained in the law feel compelled to administer it to others even after discovered it's not done for them what they propose it will do for others. Let not failure get in the way of ego! The second, most important, and difficult path to discovering the divine is quiet and stillness. Accomplishing such a state in our modern-day society is akin to a miracle, especially if realized on any kind of daily frequency or tenure. The Psalmist has encouraged us to, "Be STILL and know God." Could the search for God be that easy? No, but that's where we begin. And once we have visited that quietness of being an oneness, we get our instructions. Go and LOVE ALL. Mount transfiguration was a remarkable experience, but no dwellings were to be built there. There's too much love to be distributed in the valleys.
