Things to do in Destin
Things to do in Destin

It used to be that Destin was a desolate fusion of roads and highways, the only activity you could do was watch cars, and wait around. It was a sort of waiting room for those in Destin Florida rentals, in between trips to theme parks.

Now the area itself has become a popular tourist spot, boasting of a great deal of things to do, whilst also being within close proximity of the theme parks that run throughout the state. In 25 years time it has developed in to a destination that attracts tourists on its own merit and here is a look at some of the things to do in Destin.

Hit the Beach

Florida is renowned for having some of the best beaches in the country, and Destin is no exception. The beaches here feature pale blue sparkling waters and white sands, and in the summer the water sparkles with great warmth.

This is a nice location for sunbathing as the sun is generous here and the sands are warm and soft. Then it is also a good location for swimming, with the warm blue waters and not so crowded shores, though it is tough to find a place to surf, with much of the water being occupied.

Look at some Art

The sunshine state may not often be associated with the arts, certainly its identity is entwined with theme parks and tourism, but you may be surprised at its cultural offerings. The local scene has plenty of creators, and plenty of places to exhibit.

You can hardly avoid artworks around here; they seem to be on the walls of nearly every restraint and bar, with even little cafes exhibiting works from the local scene.

You can find out about all arts events online.

Go Fishing

Destin has quickly become regarded as one of the best places to fish in the United States. Firstly there is the bounty of fish available. Secondly is the setting, with the warm Florida sun glaring overhead it is no surprise that this is considered an angler's paradise.

Every year they hold an annual fishing rodeo, which is one of the most fun days one could possibly have whilst fishing.

Dolphin Cruises

If wielding a rod is not quite your style then there are other ways to engage with the sea here. In fact there is a great opportunity to see the water mammals lurking around the corners.

Taking a cruise in a glass bottom boat will not only let you see the beautiful sights under the ocean, but also the animals. On these shores expect to see dolphins and day glow fishes.

Hit the Road

If you want to take in the area around, a great idea is to hire a bicycle and hit the 30-A road. This road is free from all the congestion of tourist traffic and offers a pleasant cycle through the surrounding towns. You will find a mixture of relaxed beaches and quiet, charming sea-side villages, with wonderful little restaurants and boutiques.
