I Need Help Choosing My Career!
I Need Help Choosing My Career!

If you can relate to the title of this article, you are not alone. According to a recent survey, only 14% of employees are extremely satisfied wit their jobs. That means that everyone else is at best moderately satisfied with their job. How can that be? We spend more time at our jobs than we do at any other thing that we do besides sleeping. We spend more waking time at work that we do at our home. And only 14% are extremely satisfied with their jobs? Houston (and every other city in the world) we have got a problem.

Why is it like this?

There are many reasons that people don't like their jobs but usually it is related to the fact that they didn't choose their career for the right reasons. In fact, for many people, it is because they didn't choose their career at all. They simply let life drag them along and then wound up behind a desk somewhere. Basically they ended up where they are because they chose to never make a choice. Other people end up in their jobs because it was the way road to take, or it is the family business or someone told them that this type of job would be popular. Many people chase money and well, money just does not satisfy.

So what to do?

Well, if you are lucky enough to be reading this while you are still in college or even earlier in your education, stop listening to what jobs are going to be popular and start focusing on what kind of job you want to do. You will not find true success by following the numbers and trends but only by following your passions. If you are already entrenched in a career, then start by accepting responsibility for why you are there. This will allow you to get past the "Why is my life like this?" question. You will then have the freedom you need to begin making the transition to a career that you love. Find a coach, and develop a plan, or network with others; just do something. Do something every day that gets you closer to your goal of having a career that you love.
