subject: Three Ways To Fail At Email Marketing [print this page]

Email marketing can allow you to leave the stress filled life that a nine to five job provides. A successful email marketing campaign can earn you thousands of dollars per month while you clip your toenails. So why arent more people doing it? Well, more people are doing it than you know. They just arent doing it well. There are many ways to fail as an email marketer.

Lack of Perseverance

If you are expecting immediate wealth, go play the lottery. Email marketing

is a long process of getting to know your business, customers, and advertising techniques. It will take a lot of time, trials, and tribulations to win over your targeted demographic. Most people will give up because they dont make much money within the first month or two. In reality, you should give it a year before you give up. It can take a long time to develop a successful campaign.

Spamming

The hardest thing to do is build a list of individuals that actually want to receive your email advertisements. This step is crucial in ensuring good email deliverability. Do not let impatience lead you to taking shortcuts. These shortcuts are usually called spam and will harm your deliverability

long after your failed message. If you are paying for a list of email addresses, or if you are lifting these addresses from another source, its most likely going to be considered spam. You wont make any money this way. You may even be labeled as a spammer and hinder your future attempts. If its seems too good to be true, it usually is.

Poor Writing

Another fantastic way to fail at email marketing is to include poor writing in your emails. Some marketers either dont have a good grasp of the English language or they just dont want to proofread their work. The slightest error in spelling or grammar can turn a sale into an annoyed customer. Remember, email marketing is all about repeat business. If you are turning customers away because you didnt want to take the five minutes to proofread, maybe its time to look into something else.

Opting Out

It is important to give your customers a way to opt out of your emails. This may seem counterintuitive, but you will be less likely to be regarded as a spammer. Nothing is more annoying than receiving ten emails a week from a company you want nothing to do with. By providing your customers with the opportunity to opt out, your customers will perceive you as a professional.

Email marketing can bring in droves of money every month, but only a select few will make it that far. Most will adopt one of the aforementioned shortcuts and fail to make any decent money as an email marketer. By avoiding the shortcuts, and taking the long ugly road, you can secure your place as a wealthy email marketer.
