subject: Win Place Or What? [print this page]

While visiting a friend recently, he suggested that we hit the horse racing track. It sounded like a good time and I was in. What I failed to realize, was that there are horse betting rules. A quick trip to the World Wide Web could have prevented some red-faced moments but, alas, hindsight

In high spirits, we arrived at the track. It was abuzz with people and pounding hooves, and it promised an exciting evening. When deciding on which horse I would place my first bet, I was still unaware of typical horse betting rules, tips or tricks. The favorites looked promising, and winning was the goal, but how thrilling to see my long shot choice thunder up from behind. Hmm, I decided in that moment to place my bet on the underdog, um, underhorse. My turn at the betting window confirmed that I did not know any of the horse betting rules. My friend, who had gone before me, was headed back out to the stands, and I had not paid attention to what he had said or done. How complicated could it be? I told the gentleman behind the window which horse I would like to bet on. Did he stifle a chuckle? I prefer to think that he just held in a yawn before he asked if I wanted win, place, or show. O.K., it became clear to me that I needed to catch up with my buddy for a quick tutorial on the horse betting rules.

From that day I was hooked, and determined to delve into the world of horse betting rules, lingo, and strategy. With so much information available on the web my learning curve was made easy. I bookmarked www.sportsbook.com as one of my favorites and now understand the horse betting rules, and thoroughly enjoy my new pastime.
