Lots of us are waiting for things to happen. When whatever it is we want to happen finally happens,then we'll begin really living.
When the Little Prince wants to see a sunset, his pilot friend reminds him they are on Earth, which means they have towait.
The idea ofwaiting for things is foreign to the Little Prince, though he's learning what waiting means now that he's on Earth.
Quips the little fellow, "I am always thinking that I am at home!" Recall that the Little Prince symbolizes our deepest being, our essence. In our "at home" stateour true beingwe are unaware of time in the way humans normally experience it.
That's not to say that life doesn't flow in a forward direction sequentially. It does. The circumstances in which we find ourselves at this present moment could not exist without all the myriad events that had brought us to this stage in our evolution.
There is no jumping forward or backward, which would make a mockery of the entire evolutionary process.
Incarnation of consciousness happensprogressively, brick upon brick. You can't put the higher bricks of consciousness in place unless you have built from the foundation up, painstakinglyand often painfully, as history reveals.
All of this pain humans experience occurs because this is the only way the divine can create, through gradual incarnation of consciousness as creatures evolve to the point they are sufficiently complex to manifest higher levels of consciousness. Without the tools, you can't do the work.
When I look back over my own life at sixty-three, almost sixty-four years of age, I realize that the vast tapestry of events that went into the making of me as an increasingly conscious personhad to be.
Without the mess I made as I learned to crawl in consciousness, then stand, then walk, and now finally beginning to runthough nowhere near ready for the Olympics!I simply couldn't have become the person I now so enjoy being.
We might be tempted to feel bad about all the people we hurt along the way. But I don't feel bad. Guilt, I've learned, is a useless emotionexcept as we finally become sick enough of feeling guilty that we give it up.
The reason I don't feel bad is that everything I inflicted on others became part of a divine tapestry intheir life also, playing some small role in evoking in them what others have evoked in me.
Which is what makes forgiveness so natural. As Jesus put it, "Forgive us, as we forgive them." Yes, of course! We are all in this messy evolution together. We are each part and parcel of what's being created hereof the emerging self-manifestation of God in human form.
Evolution is extremely patient. It takes steps forward, steps back, then more steps forward, inching its way to a higher level of development, permitting a higher degree of consciousness to shine through the forms that are emerging.
So at one level thereis a "waiting" in life. It's just a fact that the divine can't create instantaneously and must take lots of time to bring about its grand design.
Like Michaelangelo's David, conscious beings have to be slowly chiseled out and shaped. Thisnot magic (under the guise of the more spiritual-sounding word "miracle")is the method of divine creativity.
Yet paradoxically there is no waiting! In our deepest being, we are not aware of the passage of time. We are so present, so absorbed in each moment that we just don't notice how long it's all taking!
Life is happeningnow. It will also happen even more fully tomorrow, if by being fully present in this moment we evolve the capacity for even greater fulfillment.
The trick is to relax into being in our center, coming from our essence in everything we do, so that we are totally immersed in, engaged in, everything we do.
