Four Tips for Using Twitter Lists

"Twitter Lists" is an extremely helpful feature that can make it easier to keep track of the profiles that you wish to follow. If you follow a large number of users, you can categorize them so that you only see certain groups of users at one time. Here are some helpful tips regarding Twitter lists.

1. To create a list, click the "Create a list" link under your "Lists" tab on your home page. You will be prompted to enter a name and description for your list. You can select your newly created list from your "Lists" tab on your profile page and add users right away. You can create as many lists as you want and add as many users to each list as you like.

2. You will also be asked if this list is to be public or private. If you select private, only you will be able to view this list. By choosing public, you enable any Twitter user to follow your list as well. If you are added to someone else's list, it will show up on the "Listed" part of your profile next to your number of followers.

3. To follow other people's lists, you can click the "Lists" tab on other users' pages to find out what lists include them. Listorious is a Twitter app that you can use to search a directory of Twitter lists, people, tags, and the most listed people.

4. Perhaps the best part of this feature is that you don't actually need to follow the users that you add to your lists. That means that you can keep track of the tweets of hundreds of users without officially following them. You can view their tweets along with the other users that you add to your list.

TweetDeck and Hootsuite are free Twitter apps that can help you easily create, view, and manage your lists. Following niche interests, news, friends, and work related tweets couldn't be easier than using lists.
