Divorce is an Opportunity

Divorce is an Opportunity.

I'm not advocating divorce I'd much rather couples and families learn how to work together and get their lives on track. However, divorce does happen and like all life changes it is important to make the most of every opportunity that presents itself.

You may not be feeling like your divorce is an opportunity right now, but even if you didn't want it, you have learned something fundamental about yourself and the person you were married to.

Most importantly, the past is the past, you can't change it. You can try to hang on to it or you can get over it.

I read an interesting quote the other day, John C. Maxwell, in his book, Put Your Dream to the Test was talking about overcoming fear, the fears associated with following your dream, he said "we all die in the end, but there is no reason to die in the middle". A great book if you have a dream or need to dream!

Fear is very real for people who find themselves alone after many years in a relationship, you have to learn to live a different life, divorce doesn't mean that you have to die' in the middle of your life. Change brings opportunity.

Getting your life back on track after a divorce is, whether you believe me or not, about making the most of your new opportunities. It's a good time to reflect on dreams that you may have put to one side because you felt that your relationship was more important.

What are these opportunities?

Spend your free time as you choose this is your YOU' time.

Do the things you choose to do with your family.

Move to another locality,

Change jobs,

Make new friends,

Eat what you like,

Sleep when you like,

Change the colour of your hair.

What have you not been doing for the last few years?

What did you think you would like to do?

What was stopping you and what is stopping you now?

Another great book to read Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway, by Susan Jeffers.

You don't need to rush into anything, take your time, think about what you would like to do with the rest of your life and the opportunities that gives you. If you have a dream to pursue make a plan, do something everyday to move you closer to that dream.
