Well it had to happen. Disney Channel's huge Hannah Montana TV show is such a cash cow that the next logical step was to make a feature film. And as far as these things go, this is a pretty good effort. Your kids will love it, so why not watch Hanna Montana the Movie Online for free.
For those of you who are older or don't have young kids at home or have been living under a rock, you might not know who Hannah Montana is. Hannah Montana is The Disney Channel's mega popular tween sitcom that has been running on the cable channel for several years. Hannah Montana is the rock star alter-ego of Miley Stewart, a brunette high school girl by day. The show focuses on Miley as she tries to keep her two identities a secret so she can live a somewhat regular life. Only a few of her closest friends know her true duel identity, and they help to keep her secret.
The movie (and tv show) stars Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart / Hannah Montana. Miley Cyrus is the real life daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus (who also plays Robby Ray Stewart Miley Stewart's dad). Miley Cyrus is a gifted physical actress even at her young age, and she brings a real sweetness to her role. Inevitably, situations arise where Miley Stewart and Hannah Montana must appear at the same time in different locations (such as when Hannah must attend a banquet in her honor thrown by a small town mayor, and a simultaneous dinner date with Miley's new cowboy boyfriend Travis). Cyrus pulls off the frantic back and forth scuttling with amazing grace and humor. This scene may make some older people think of Lucy Ball in one of her hurried scenes over a half century ago.
There are several story lines going on in Hannah Montana the Movie. The first is when Hannah/Miley's dad sees that Miley is beginning to lose touch with her family and the little things that make life fun. To knock her down a few pegs and get her head back on straight, he forces her to spend two weeks at her Grandmother's house in the small Tennessee town of Crowley Corners where the family grew up. This is where the majority of the film takes place, as she spends time with her Grandmother (expertly played by Margo Martindale) and begins to learn that what is really important in life does not have to do with being a pop princess.
The second, concurrent story is that of a meddling, undercover English tabloid journalist (a hilarious portrayal by Peter Gunn) who is trying to get dirt on Hannah Montana. He follows her down to Tennessee for a story, and causes nothing but headaches for himself as he fails on every turn.
The third story is that of a greedy developer (Barry Bostwick) who comes to Crowley Corners with plans to turn Main Street into a shopping mall.
This movie is stuffed with enough pratfalls, Miley / Hannah quick changes and sibling interplay with Miley's hilarious brother Jackson (Jason Earles) to keep any fan of the show interested. All the series regulars are here Emily Osment as best friend Lily, Mitchel Musso as good friend Oliver, Jason Earles as brother Jackson and Moises Arias as child businessman Rico.
Hannah Montana is a warm and cute family movie about staying true to your roots and keeping old school family traditions and customs close to your heart. This film is both fun and whimsical as well as heartfelt and inspiring.
