subject: How to know God's will [print this page] How to know God's will How to know God's will
Have you ever felt like you don't seem to know God's will for you? Do you feel like you are on your own without any help? Are you feeling alone and afraid?
I can honestly tell you that I too have felt that way at times in my walk with God. Times where it seems like He is so distant, yet His word tells us He is near. Those night seasons where the deafening silence roars with absolute fervor, causing you to wonder where is God and is He listening?
It is at these points of life that God reassures us that He will reveal His will for us. His word is intact and true, without spot or blemish. The Lord Himself guides us into His perfect will for us and we need to line up with what He is calling us into.
In general terms, God calls us to love Him with all our heart, mind and soul. We are not to sin and all the other 10 Commandments. These are not just guidelines but a framework for a "lifestyle". The Jews knew how hard it was to keep the Law. But we are not under the Law. Jesus Christ is the propitiation for our sins. We have been bought with a price and as such, we need to realize we are the beloved. His love for us is so great that He willingly and intentionally send Jesus to take our punishment so we could take our place as the beloved. We owe Him so much and yet He doesn't put in on our account, but instead, it is marked "Paid In Full, Love Jesus"
How then, are we to know God's will for us? Simple; revel in His love. Bask in His presence. Be still and "know" that He is God. Proclaim Him to others. Rejoice in His presence. Ask of Him and He shall respond. Ask, Seek, Knock. He will open the door. And when He does, He will reveal wondrous things that you have not even dreamed of. Worship Him in majesty. Adore Him in the light of His presence, for He loves you greatly. Sin free and bought with a price, we will stand before Him and on that day we will see Him in His glory.
You see, it all comes down to perception. We are heavenly citizens, not earthly ones. Although we live on this earth, this world is not our home. Once you "get" that then you can realize "how" to approach Him to inquire of His will (specific) for you. I thought I was supposed to be an engineer, then a computer geek, then a Realtor, etc, etc. After utterly exhausting all my "pre-conceived" notions of what "I" thought I was supposed to do, I literally threw in the towel and said "Ok God, I give up, you handle it!" and you know what? He did. I now know what I am supposed to be doing. I am supposed to teach people about the deep things of God, write books and hold meetings. I thought ministry was my idea of being somebody when I was a baby Christian, but no, He was showing me "things to come"
The true process of knowing God's will is "surrender". Do you remember the song "I surrender all?"
All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In his presence daily live.
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me Jesus, take me now.
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
It is this posture that will allow Him to reveal His will for you. Once you surrender, then He can truly bless you.
Pray this prayer with me:
Lord, I ask you to forgive me for trying to go my own way.
I thank you for being there even when I thought you were distant. Please give me your wisdom. I humbly surrender my life to You and ask that You show me what I am supposed to do. Visit me in the night seasons of my dream life and show me Your way for me. Thank You dear Jesus for Your great sacrifice so that I can live free. Amen
