So.The news filters through that it's been announced that Creswell Crags has won "Best Museum of the Year 2010" from the Renaissance East Midlands at the Derbyshire Heritage Awards 2010.
Surely with all the funding received by Creswell Crags from both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire County Councils and other funding bodies, the Crags will not want an Anaerobic Digester on its doorstep.
Even Dr. Paul Pettit, Senior Lecturer in Palaeolithic Archaeology at Sheffield University, and author of Britain's Oldest Art: The Ice Age Cave Art of Creswell Crags and Palaeolithic Cave Art at Creswell Crags in European Context has expressed his utter disgust at the thought of such a facility being so close to such an area of Scientific interest. Not to mention the increase in traffic along the main visitor access road to the Crags.
The Crags Trust are aiming to secure the Limestone Gorge as a World Heritage Site. Will the building of such a health hazardous waste and silage plant effect gaining this most prestigious title?
Would your family still want to visit Creswell Crags, walk around the lake, and explore the gorge with a gas mask on your face to prevent you smelling the horrific stench of rotting veg pulp, sugarbeat, chicken and pig manure, to count but a few. Would your family also want to run the risk of breathing in harmful bioaersols when visiting the Crags?mmmmm I think not.
My young son visits Creswell Crags on a weekly basis with his Grandpa and is even on first name terms with the attendants at the museum. Only yesterday, he went after school to do brass rubbings
So, will my son continue to do this if Derbyshire County Council and the Coalition Government allow this monster to be built 85 meters from residential homes, 10 meters from the nearest business premises, and 280 meters from the local infant and junior school I think not..
Will my son continue to attend the local infant and junior school mentioned above.. I think not.
I write this post with my son in mind. Today's society is a troubled one, Whitwell had had its fair share of pollution and health problems, and have put up with Quarries and Pits and is still putting up with the ever increasing flow of HGVs taking short cuts through the village.
Do we really want to live on top of a stinking plant which is only a fat cash reward for share holders and investors of Alkane Energy?
So, come all you Whitwell, Hodthorpe, Creswell, and Belph residents. Get with it and lets stop this monster from being approved. We only have one chance let's use it..
