Plastic is among the most versatile materials for creating numerous everyday items. From widely used household items to office storage accessories to industrial bottles and packaging materials, plastic has wide usage across industries, businesses, and households and has now become an indispensable component of our daily lives.

There are lots of types of industrial plastics with countless general and special purposes. Plastic is among the most amazing innovations over the last millennium. The name plastic itself comes right out of the Greek word 'Plastikos' which denotes the capability to taking any shape or mold. The properties of industrial plastics are different from the others. Therefore, plastic has a wide flexible range to satisfy an array of manufacturers' requirements.

Delrin machining sheets, rods & tubes have many of the same characteristics of industrial metals like brass, aluminum, zinc, and stainless steel. Delrin is a homopolymer acetal (POM). Delrin is amongst the strongest non-reinforced plastics available. Delrin bridges the gap between metals and ordinary plastics using a unique mixture of creep resistance, strength, stiffness, hardness, dimensional stability, toughness, fatigue resistance, solvent and fuel resistance, abrasion resistance, low wear and low friction. Delrin 150 Natural, standard general purpose, unfilled acetal has the best impact toughness of all the unfilled Delrin products. Delrin 150 SA was discontinued in 2003 & replaced by Delrin 150. Lubricated and glass filled grades are available to enhance Delrin resin's already excellent mechanical and thermal properties.

Delrin Machining Details

Acetal, commonly known by the brand name Delrin, is a thermoplastic polymer manufactured through the polymerization of formaldehyde. The chemical composition, regular structure and high crystallinity of acetal resins give parts manufactured from acetal a mix of physical properties not available with metals or other plastics.

Delrin Acetal (the generic name for a family of products) provides high strength and stiffness as well as increased dimensional stability and ease of machining. Low moisture absorption, low coefficient of friction and also good wear properties make Delrin resin ideally suited for close tolerance mechanical parts.

Delrin machining resin is often utilized for gears, rollers, electrical components, ROV components, bearings and bushings. It's also used in RC Car wheels, paintball gun bolts, and many other applications. Delrin machining is a better substitute for Nylon. Delrin machining is used in guitar picks because of its durability, and as combination wheels in top notch safes due to its resistance to x-rays. Delrin machining can be used for making frame sliders for motorcycles and knee pucks for motorcycle riders. It's also found in knife handles. Delrin is easy to saw, drill, lathe and even sand. It is approved by the FDA for food-based applications.

Homopolymer acetal is usually known as Delrin machining, resins that are currently made by the DuPont Company under the trade name Delrin AF. Homopolymers have slightly higher mechanical and thermal properties than Copolymers. Delrin machining is available in various grades, colors, and stock shapes, with assorted fillers for enhanced properties.
