Most of the new ministers, are actually old faces been put back into top posts, and Nicolas Sarkozy has surprisingly chosen the former prime minister Alain Jupp to return to government as defense minister. For Jupp, 65, mayor of Bordeaux, this is quite a bit of a comeback.
His political career has been marked by dramatic highs and lows. The largest of its kind came when in 2004 he was convicted of misuse of public funds in the city of Paris. It earned him a suspended sentence and a ban on all public service for a year.
But now, Alain Jupp is back in good standing, and as Defense Minister he will replace Herve Morin.Another major reshuffle is on the post of foreign minister, Michele Alliot-where Marie replaces Bernard Kouchner.
Brice Hortefeux retain his post as minister, while Francois Baroin must be spokesman for the government and also continue as budget minister. Finance Minister Christine Lagarde has continued.
The 45-year-old Baroin, who with his round glasses and schoolboy haircut bear nicknamed 'Harry Potter', is just like Jupp among the politicians who have among the selected few of the former President Jacques Chirac.
