subject: Is The United States Gearing For A Possible Conflict With China [print this page] I have been concerned for quite awhile because of the obvious military buildup that the Chinese military has been conducting. It was very obvious to me that the Chinese were procuring weapons which they would use to neutralize any threat that we could impose on them in the Pacific Ocean and the China Sea. I personally found it to be quite alarming when I looked at the size and scope of their military build up. I felt that if I could see what was happening why couldnt our own government see it? Well Im sure that they did but they are not in the habit of discussing their next political and military moves with me beforehand. As a matter of fact it seems that they were way ahead of me. I have found in my reading that we are developing weapons systems designed to counter any threats future Chinese weaponry may cause.
Any future conflict would have to be a naval type operation because of the wide expanse of sea between the two countries. Long range missiles would also have to be used to counter the enormous distance between the countries. I do not forsee much of a land war in any future conflict because the logistics of projecting sufficient manpower and the equipment required to insure their victory is just too much. The distance and amount of manpower needed are just not feasible to a successful land operation. The only way that I can see a land operation would be in the event that one warring nation was to become too weak to adequately defend itself. In that event ground troops could be used to secure the land.
China is also beefing up its capability to conduct warfare in outer space. The Chinese realize that in order to conduct a successful military operation they would have to neutralize our capability to use space technology in combat. If they were successful they would be able to neutralize much of our most sophisticated military technology.
The US is also beefing up its alliances with some of the other smaller countries in the South China Sea area. China has routinely bullied some of those smaller countries because it needs the resources which are found there. They have a massive population and need every available resource to insure their continued economic growth. The United States can establish a presence in the area by beefing up its alliances which would serve as a foothold should the two countries ever go to war.
In addition the US is attempting to place itself in a favorable position in the trade war which the Chinese have won up until now. The country that holds the upper hand financially will be able to better endure a military conflict.
The US has also made an unprecedented arms trade with Taiwan which is designed to counter the Chinese threat to the Island. The Chinese seem bent on taking over that country and refuse to recognize their independence. They have threatened the Taiwanese with military force on many occasions and I have no doubt that they will not hesitate to use it. The US will also seek to provide arms to some of the other small countries in the region. This action will seek to insure a halt to Chinese expansionism in the area and would help us to have a toe hold in the area in case we ever had to go to war with the Chinese.
The US has also begun to put a new strategy together which would dictate the tactics which would be used in the event of a war with China. The new doctrine takes all of Chinas perceived strengths and weaknesses into account and pieces a plan of action together to counter them. Military Ring Express
