subject: Why Quality Content Is Your Best Strategy For Link Building [print this page] Why Quality Content Is Your Best Strategy For Link Building
In this article I'm going to talk about why you should start concentrating on creating high quality content instead of your normal linkbuilding efforts of re-hashing other peoples content, participating on forums and doing link exchanges like most people do!
You see, methods of building back-links such as placing your link in the signature on a forum and then participating on that forum do work and sure they are something you shouldn't stop doing because often if you enjoy interacting with other people on that forum then you're building links for doing something you enjoy anyway.
The point is that many people spend hours and hours trying to build links, contacting bloggers for link exchanges, re-writing other peoples content and many other things, the list goes on and although all of these methods can result in links back to your website and higher rankings there's actually another way in which you could not only increase your ranking, but actually increase your brand!
I'm talking about content! If you can spend time to create high quality content which really helps people then you'll reap the benefits!
This is exactly what the big name company's do! They don't spend their time doing low quality link exchanges, interacting on forums and re-writing other peoples articles. They spend their time developing a high quality piece of content which people will enjoy and therefore link to, whether that be a high quality article or more often a high quality video!
Not only does that content potentially create 1000s of links, but it creates a buzz about their product/service and increases their overall brand!
Of course, they have the big budgets to produce really high quality videos and get them out there in front of people but there's no reason why people like us can't do that on a smaller scale!
If you've got a service to offer online or a product whatever it may be then the chances are that you are an expert at whatever it is that you do! If you run a health and fitness website then you can spend time creating high quality content about weight loss, staying fit etc etc
Once you've created that content that you know will help whoever uses it (because you're the expert) you can then take some time to promote that content and get it in front of people!
This is one of the key things that people forget to do, they think that by creating content that content will automatically find it's way to people but that's wrong! If you spend some time and maybe a little bit of money you can get that content in front of people who will potentially enjoy it, and if they enjoy it they might link to it, if they don't they might recommend it to a friend who may link to it, they may post it on their facebook profile which puts it in front of another 200+ people (on average) who may link to it, re-post it, retweet it etc etc
By creating high quality content that people enjoy you'll potentially get loads of links from that content without having to email webmasters asking for a link, or doing link exchanges or spammy blog commenting, sure some of those things can work as an extra but non of them build your online profile and give you better backlinks!
You see the benefit here is that even if people don't link to you, but they like your content they they'll probably retweet it or post it on facebook, this expands your reach to more people which in turn grows your online brand!
There's 3 things you need to do in order to make this work:
1) Create high quality content
2) Get that content in front of people
3) Get people to link back to your content!
You may think number 3 sounds hard but really it doesn't have to be. If you are creating a high quality article then all you need to do is encourage people to link to your article at the bottom, a simple closing sentence of, "If you enjoyed this article we encourage you to link to us, tweet the article to your friends or post it on facebook:-)"
Most article directories now have social buttons which allow you to post content to twitter and facebook easily just by clicking a couple of things, these are also available for blogs too!
It's also highly recommended that you syndicate your content with Rss aggregators because other people who enjoy your content can pick it up and use it on their blog, as long as you make sure you've linked back to your own website in the article or author box then you could potentially get lots of links from this!
I hope you have enjoyed this article, now what are you waiting for.go and create that exceptional high quality content and start getting a flood of new back-links!
We encourage you to tweet this article, link to it, post it on facebook or even use the content on your own website, if so please include this author box that links back to our main website. SEO Consultant - Mark Sherris UK.
