One of the necessary items for either the home or car is a well-equipped toolbox. It is an essential item for those times when something breaks or needs adjusting, which happens more often then not. There are a number of simple tool box accessories that deserve a place inside, these may make the difference between a simple delay or a long expensive trek to find a person who knows how to fix the broken item, especially if you are on a road trip somewhere. These are not expensive tools but they will be used over and over during your lifetime of owning or renting a home or driving a car.

The first item is of course a toolbox itself; there are many different models and types available. Make sure to choose the correct one for your household, it needs to be big enough to hold all the tools and easy to carry if needed. A tape measure will be one of the first tool box accessories that is added, one that measures at least 16 feet is a good size and Stanley is one of the top brands. A claw hammer and all in one screwdriver is also a good choice. If the screwdriver is battery operated, add batteries to the list and check them often.

Pliers are needed to grip objects as are small adjustable wrenches like a crescent wrench; two saws, a small hand saw and a special saw to cut metal called a hack saw, which is a great saw to cut a piece of metal pipe, invaluable when a plumbing situation arises and you decide to replace the pipe.

The other items are also very necessary for home tool kits is a cordless drill with assorted bits; electrical tape, duct tape; nails and screws to fasten things together with and WD-40 which is handy for many different things other then lubricating squeaky door hinges or bicycle chains.

If you are hanging pictures or curtain rods, a level will be handy to tell if the picture is even. A utility knife is a great tool box accessory along with an assorted sizes of sandpaper, rags and a collapsible funnel. Finally, a small notebook and pencil to note down measurements, this is handy to keep common sizes of specialty things in your home that you need but forget, such as the correct size of the vacumn bags or the place you last found the right color of paint needed for the bathroom trim. An awl and safety goggles are a nice tool box accessory to have also.

If you are putting together tool box accessories for your son or daughter include a list of recommended places to find items they might need and do not forget the flashlight with extra batteries. If this tool kit is for the car, include an old cell phone that can be used to call 911 in case their cell phone dies at an inopportune time. Finally, the most important part of the tool kit is a small first aid kit; these will needed if you have a cut that needs attention when making repairs on the household appliances or furnishings.
