subject: See And Hear The Growing The Audio Visual Industry [print this page]

This growing industry was a focus of the 2006 Market Forecast Study conducted by InfoComm International where it was predicted that the audiovisual industry would keep growing for the fourth consecutive year. The growth of this industry remains stable through recessions and will continue to grow as there is a demand for presentation equipment in all parts of society from business to entertainment. Everybody wants to watch a screen, even if there is no popcorn.

This is great news for any manufacturer of audiovisual equipment who stands to make more money by selling more equipment as there is a high demand for it from business, schools, theatres and other industries. The growth of the audiovisual industry is also beneficial to any qualified operators, technicians or specialists whose skills are demanded. Sound, video, lighting, display and projection systems all need maintenance and skilled operators so there is always work. There are many websites and employment agencies that offer contracts or full time jobs for experts and novices in this industry. Usually a qualification is required, but there are many inhouse training courses that will take applicants from school. This is an ideal way to get experience while studying and progressing in the industry.

With the increase in computer-based audio-visual equipment in the education and government sector, there is a demand for user-friendly audiovisual equipment in retail stores, pubs, theatres, restaurants, museums and churches. There are various audiovisual systems to choose from and consultants usually provide advice. There are jobs in audiovisual stores for consultants or reps that travel to various institutions to sell products. There are vacancies for trainers who provide education on using the equipment and programmers who install and program the conferencing and projection equipment. Web conferencing is popular in businesses and there are separate presentation rooms constructed to launch a product or educate staff en masse. A staged environment such as a concert is bigger and reaches more people and a more sophisticated audiovisual system is required to be effective. There are always camera operators, editors, lighting experts and production managers needed to stage a concert and this creates temporary jobs for people. Many people in the audiovisual industry work on a freelance basis and sporadically throughout the year. This is a popular hiring technique in the movie industry where more crew is needed during busy periods. Apart from working on a freelance basis, there are longer contracts with companies who want to hire an inhouse audiovisual expert to train staff to use the equipment, but may not need the expert on the premises permanently. This is more of a consulting role for the audiovisual expert. There is also permanent work in a company or the option of starting your own business.

This is a very passionate industry where the equipment is manufactured and treated with great care and new technology is created on a daily basis to meet the growing needs of consumers. Presentations are constantly getting more sophisticated and professional.
