How to use a recovery tool to recover Outlook PST?

Even after using the Inbox repair tool to repair the damaged pst, if you are not able to open your original PST file, it is likely that the subsequent procedures may possibly not work. If you are capable of opening the file, then you are likely to recover other items from your corrupted Personal Folders (.pst) file.

As soon as Inbox Repair Tool is executed, then create a backup of Personal Folders file option is chosen. Which in turn creates a file that resides on your hard disk which will be given the same file name as the pst file has with .bak extension " .bak", and this is a duplicate copy of the already existing .pst file. This backup file is located in the same directory where your original Personal Folders (.pst) file.

You may possibly be capable of recovering other items that are related to the corrupted pst file, from the .bak file which is not possible with Inbox Repair Tool. Now create a photocopy of the backup (.bak) file, by renaming it with .pst extension.

Once we are ready with the new pst file then we need to import that file into the Microsoft Outlook by following the below steps:

Select File menu, click on Import and Export menu item.

Choose the option "Import from another program or file", and click on Next.

Select Personal Folder File (.pst) to be imported, and then click on Next.

Check Do not import duplicates option, and then click on Next.

Then click on finish

This way we can recover outlook pst files. If this does not work go for any third party recovery tool.
