Positive displacement blowers are available in different models. The most common are rotary displacement pumps, reciprocating displacement pumps and piston pumps.

Rotary Displacement Pumps

Rotary displacement pumps work under the principle of rotation. They use the rotary force to create the vacuum for the suction effect required to draw the fluid from the hose. The rotation gives a thorough cleaning effect, without leaving any fluid content inside the hose. Rotary displacement pumps are also fitted with suction pressure controls so as to control the pressure of the liquid movement.

Positive displacement blowers may create several performance issues if not attended properly. For rotary displacement pumps to work efficiently the space between the exterior edge of the hose and the pump should be maintained at the correct level. Having too much room may result in trapping of the air or liquid inside instead of vacuuming it out. If this problem persists, it may affect the performance of the pump and ultimately make it non-functional.

Rotary pumps are therefore fitted with gears that have sprockets, which enable them to fit into each other resulting in continuous rotation. While the sprockets turn in opposite directions, vacuum is created inside the chamber which will then trap the air and liquid making the pump work effectively.

Screw pumps are one of the popular types of rotary displacement pumps. Screw pumps are fitted with two screws with opposite threads. They turn in opposite direction, creating rotating motion.

Moving vane pumps are another type of rotary pumps. They have two parts working in opposite direction, creating the vacuum required to push the fluid outwards.

Reciprocating Displacement Pump

Reciprocating displacement pump features a tapered cylinder that creates suction when the rotors are turned inside the hose. The fluid along with the air is pulled into the chamber formed by the conical shape of the cylinder. The reciprocating action creates vacuum that is required to push the fluid outwards.

Piston Pumps

Piston pumps, also known as diaphragm pumps, are another form of positive displacement blowers found today. These pumps trap less amount of air or fluid inside them, so they are used in applications that require less force.

Choosing the positive displacement blowers requires special skill. Depending on the application, you may choose from any of the above varieties of positive displacement blowers.
